It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Shakuntala Shetty, a beloved wife, mother, and role model in the community, who passed away peacefully at the age of 79 in Louisville, Kentucky.
Born and raised in a life devoted to family, service, and faith, Shakuntala was a pillar of the Indian and Hindu community in Louisville. She dedicated much of her time and energy to enriching the lives of others, serving as President of the Hindu Temple of Kentucky and President of the India Community Foundation. Through her leadership, she helped foster understanding, spiritual growth, and cultural pride for countless individuals and families.
Her life was a testament to grace, compassion, and quiet strength. A socialite by nature, she enjoyed being with friends and living life to the fullest. Whether she was organizing a community event, guiding temple projects, or simply sharing a meal with loved ones, Shakuntala brought people together with warmth and sincerity.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 56 years, Shantharam Shetty, her loving brother Sharath Hegde, and her cherished daughter, Sanchita Bhandary and her husband Balnath Bhandary, and their sons Manav and Dylan. Her loving Son, Rajit Shetty and his wife Amita Shetty, with their children Anik and Myra. She is also remembered by many countless in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and her Louisville community. Her presence will be deeply missed but never forgotten, as her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched.
A memorial service was held at Ratterman Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Road on June 23 at 10 am. A private cremation followed. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her honor to the Hindu Temple of Kentucky.
May her soul find eternal peace.
