We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Dr. Shekhar Shetty Kaup. He died peacefully on the morning of October 24, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Mrs. Suvasini S. Kaup, and children: his daughters, Dr. Sahana S. Kaup, Mrs. Shubha K. Johnson, Mrs. Saumya K. Davis, and his son Mr. Rajshaker S. Kaup; and his beloved grandchildren: Braeden, Garrett, Trevor and Nora.
Dr. Shekhar S. Kaup strongly believed in supporting the Bunt community, here and in India. He was one of the first Bunts to settle in the United States. Through his experience and influence, he sponsored multiple members of his extended family and society. In so doing, he helped to provide a foundation for the organization we have today. In India, he would often give talks at student gatherings, encouraging all to pursue the educational opportunities available in the U.S. And, in memory of his mother and his sister, he set up a fund for widowed single mothers to help them navigate financial difficulties.
Dr. Shekhar S. Kaup was a keen advocate of higher education. He loved words, thoughts and ideas and he instilled that love in his immediate and extended family, friends and colleagues. He encouraged us to pursue knowledge in all its forms. He motivated us to listen, to learn and ultimately to teach others.
Dr. Shekhar S. Kaup has left us an invaluable legacy. He will be greatly missed.
